Before you build: write a better business brief
A useful brief turns a broad ambition into a question you can act on.
Name the decision
Start with the decision you need to make. “We need a strategy” is broad; “Which customer group should our first offer serve?” gives the discussion a focus. Describe the current situation and what is getting in the way.
Separate evidence from assumptions
Gather what you already know: customer questions, current offers, sales patterns, and competitor examples. Label guesses as assumptions so they can be explored rather than treated as facts.
Choose a practical next step
Define the output you need, whether it is a positioning statement, a short launch plan, or a priority list. Set a review point so the plan can evolve as you learn.
